Air quality alert issued locally as the tropics start to heat up

August is here and has brought along with it comfortable temperatures thus far. Temperatures today will make a run well into the 80s as wildfire smoke slowly seeps down towards ground level. The milky white appearance to the sky will become more of a near surface haze, slightly reducing visibility and likely impacting air quality to some extent (50-100+ AQI, especially to the NW). As a result, an air quality alert has been issued for all of the area for unhealthy levels of fine particulates.

Those with breathing sensitivities and preexisting conditions should closely monitor conditions and the forecast over these next 48 hours. You can always check your local air quality at airnow.gov.

Now aside from the smoke, today is otherwise shaping up to be a beautiful summer day. Highs this afternoon head into the mid/upper 80s for the interior, while most coastal communities should be towards 80s degrees despite a seabreeze. High temperatures do take a bit of a tumble midweek as clouds work into the picture.
