Lubbock’s Silent Wings Museum to host Spirit of ’45 Day honoring WWII home front heroes

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Silent Wings Museum will honor the legacy of America’s World War II generation with its annual Spirit of ’45 Day celebration, a free family-friendly event, on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m.

According to a press release, this year’s event will honor the sacrifices made by American children on the Home Front, whose playtime adapted to wartime realities.

“Their games and toys echoed themes of a world at war and taught them values to carry them through difficult times,” the press release said.

Guests can enjoy hands-on activities throughout the afternoon, the same ones enjoyed by kids of the World War II generation. Attendees were also invited to join a discussion with the museum’s Educator and Curator for a discussion of how play helps teach concepts and values, shown with the artifacts in its current featured exhibit, In the Game Together: Toys for a Nation at War.
