The Best Place to Wait in Denver International Airport Is Hiding Behind a Bookshelf

Behind the books, award-winning cocktails and breakfast sandwiches await.

Airports have no shortage of bookstores, so it’s not uncommon to see people lining up for the latest John Grisham at 7 a.m. But the people standing in the early-morning queue in front of the bookshelves at Williams & Graham in Denver International Airport are seeking liquid rather than literary refreshment.

DIA — the IATA code’s DEN, but locals call it DIA — has long had a robust food and beverage scene, with outposts of hometown favorites that landed it on our 2025 Global Tastemakers list of Top 10 US Airports for Food and Drink. The latest draw is this W&G outpost, near Terminal A’s gate 38. The original bookstore speakeasy has been slinging classic cocktails and Prohibition vibes in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood since 2011.

As at the original, guests at W&G enter through a book-fronted fake door in what appears to be a small bookstore to find themselves in a cozy space with a bar and views of both aircraft and fliers waiting for their boarding groups to be called. If you need some reading material, the books lining the entrance shelves are “take one, leave one,” so feel free to swap your just-read thriller for something new…
