Screentime before bed can lead to less fulfilling sleep, health expert says

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Scrolling on your phone before bed could be the reason you’re waking up tired.

A UVA Health expert says the blue light from screens suppresses melatonin, the hormone that makes you feel sleepy. He says social media apps can also trigger stress responses that make it harder to wind down.

“If you’re able to cut out that exposure in a lot of situations, we look at how long it takes someone to adjust the changes in their circadian rhythm, a lot of times it can be accomplished within like a week or two,” UVA Assistant Professor of Medicine Doctor Scott Schecter said…
