Drunk driver hits mailbox, attempts to leave before arrest in Hopkinsville

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 21-year-old man was arrested after driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident early Sunday morning.

According to an arrest report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the arresting officer was responding to a separate call for service on Holiday Park Drive around 1 a.m. on Aug. 3. The suspect’s vehicle was observed sitting behind an HPD cruiser that was parked off the side of the road. The suspect later told officers that he thought the road was closed.

A few minutes later, the vehicle started driving, struck a mailbox, and continued driving. A traffic stop was initiated by a nearby officer, and the suspect disclosed that he had a few drinks. The police report disclosed that the suspect had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The Intoxilyzer breath test confirmed that he was significantly above the legal limit…
