FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A driver bolted from deputies during a traffic stop in Fort Pierce, ditching a sizable stash of drugs and $3,800 in cash before being caught.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said on August 4, a routine traffic stop escalated into a foot chase and a major drug trafficking arrest. Deputies initiated the stop on Avenue Q in Fort Pierce, where the driver — identified as 33-year-old Reginald Straughter of Hobe Sound — abruptly fled the scene on foot.
After a short pursuit, Straughter was apprehended and found to have discarded approximately 129 grams of crack cocaine while fleeing, according to the news release. Deputies recovered the drugs along with $3,800 in cash and a small amount of marijuana.
Straughter now faces multiple counts, including:
- Trafficking in Cocaine (25g–less than 150 kg)
- Possession of Marijuana (not more than 20g)
- Two counts of Drug Paraphernalia Possession
- Obstruction of Evidence
- Resisting Arrest Without Violence
He remains jailed in St. Lucie County without bond pending his first court appearance, according to SLCSO…
