Suspect in 2013 stabbing death of Lancaster man heads to trial after waiving preliminary hearing

LANCASTER, Pa. — A state prison inmate who was charged with stabbing a Lancaster man to death during a 2013 robbery will have his case proceed to trial after waiving his preliminary hearing last week, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Shawn D. Jones, 54, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge John Bender on July 29. He is charged with criminal homicide, burglary and robbery in the stabbing death of 59-year-old Allan Wayne Hess, who was found dead in his apartment in the 200 block of West Walnut Street on January 7, 2013, prosecutors said.

DNA testing identified Jones, who was already serving a state prison sentence for unrelated charges, as a suspect in the murder in 2024…
