Johnston man facing federal weapons charges allowed to remain on home confinement after poisoning arrest

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A U.S. District Court judge allowed a Johnston man facing federal weapons charges to remain out of jail on Tuesday, even after the U.S. Attorney argued he violated the terms of his release when he was arrested in North Providence last month.

Police in North Providence charged Alessio D’Andrea, 29, with felony poisoning last month. He’s accused of poisoning another town employee and admitted to leaving a sports drink bottle filled with windshield wiper fluid inside a shared refrigerator.

At the time he was charged in North Providence, D’Andrea was also out on bond related to a 2023 federal investigation. According to court records, D’Andrea was released on a $10,000 bond that year with conditions, including that he not violate any federal, state or local laws, that he receive mental health treatment, and that he not leave home except to go to work or see a doctor…
