A vehicle crash into the Columbia River last Saturday morning has led to a full-fledged investigation by Portland’s Major Crash Team. The incident occurred at the intersection of Northeast Marine Drive and Northeast 122nd Avenue, where responding Portland Police Officers from the North Precinct discovered a damaged guardrail and the involved vehicle lying on its side in the shallow river waters.
After the discovery, emergency crews from Portland Fire & Rescue, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s River Patrol, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. They found the vehicle abandoned and began searching for the driver, whose whereabouts are still unknown. As reported by the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the vehicle was eventually towed from the river though the fate of the driver remains uncertain.
The crash has raised several questions, and due to the seriousness of the situation and the possibility that the driver may be deceased, authorities are asking the public for help in understanding what happened.
