Big Texan short on ‘Original Sack Lunch’ amid calf fry shortage

One of the Big Texan Steak Ranch’s most infamous menu items is in short supply — and no, it’s not the 72-ounce steak. It’s the “Original Sack Lunch.”

The Route 66 landmark in Amarillo is temporarily limiting orders of its calf fries — breaded and deep-fried bull testicles, otherwise known as Mountain Oysters — due to rising costs and a dwindling regional supply.

“We’re still serving them, but only half orders for now,” said Bobby Lee, co-owner of the Big Texan. “We want everyone to have a shot at tasting them, but we’re definitely not flush with inventory.”…
