LUBBOCK, Texas — A Lubbock foster parent, Mary Sifuentes, 49, was found guilty as charged by a jury on Tuesday of Aggravated Assault of a Household Member in connection with the death of a 3-month-old baby boy.
The previous proceedings for Sifuentes in 2024 ended with a mistrial.

The incident happened on December 15, 2020. Sifuentes was fostering the infant and his brother at the time. Sifuentes had told CPS she was trying to put the boys down for a nap, but the baby wouldn’t go to sleep. She said she made a bottle and tripped while holding the baby. The infant’s neck hit a bouncer, according to Sifuentes. Sifuentes had said she thought the victim was okay but saw his body go limp. She told police she saw the baby’s eyes roll back, so she “freaked out” and shook him.
Sifuentes told police, “I grabbed him, and I shook him, and his body just went limp.”…
