Critically endangered addax born at Rolling Hills Zoo

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Rolling Hills Zoo is celebrating a major conservation milestone with the birth of a critically endangered addax calf on August 2. The calf, born around 7:45 a.m., is the second offspring of mother Felicity and the fifth for father Ajax.

The new arrival brings the zoo’s total number of addax births to nine, marking another success in the zoo’s ongoing conservation efforts. Native to the Sahara Desert, the addax is among the world’s most endangered hoofed mammals, with fewer than 100 left in the wild.

Guests hoping to spot the calf should look closely; newborn addaxes often stay hidden in shallow ground or along fences as a natural survival instinct.
