City closes Sim Park entrance at night to curb reckless driving

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – After years of complaints about reckless driving and late-night noise near Sim Park, the City of Wichita has installed new security gates aimed at restoring peace to the area.

The gates, located at the entrance near Botanica, now close nightly at 9 p.m. to prevent street racing, loud engines, and other disruptions that have long concerned neighbors and visitors. They’ll reopen at 6 a.m. during warmer months and 7 a.m. in winter.

Dr. Lynette Zimmerman, executive director of Botanica, said she’s already seen the impact of the disturbances in her first year at the park. She hopes the gates will help protect the space for early morning nature walks and community events…
