(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — Manitou Springs and several other cities across Colorado have reported budget shortcomings in 2025. Cañon City looks to be joining them.
According to Cañon City officials, sales tax is falling 4.5% below the City’s budget. This comes out to roughly a $450,000 shortfall for the City’s General Fund Budget. In response, the City has reviewed and delayed pending projects that would not create any safety issues. The city has also delayed filling positions previously authorized for 2025.
City officials had this to say about the upcoming 2026 budget: “We are anticipating flat revenue for the 2026 budget. We continue to look for ways to increase our revenue whenever possible. This can include moving idle funds to higher interest accounts and seeking grant funding for not only projects but operating costs such as training.”…
