Several shipwrecks discovered at Brunswick historic site

Archaeologists recently discovered multiple shipwrecks at an area of a Brunswick County historic site at risk due to significant erosion.

A team with East Carolina University’s Program in Maritime Studies made the discoveries at the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson (BTFA) State Historic Site, according to a news release from the school.

One group of remains may be those of La Fortuna, the Spanish privateer from Cuba that exploded during an attack on the port at the end of King George’s War in September 1748…
