Quad Cities, Iowa – Residents across the Quad Cities and surrounding areas should prepare for scattered thunderstorms developing late tonight, bringing the threat of strong winds and soaking downpours through 10 a.m. Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, a Marginal Risk for severe weather has been issued for eastern Iowa, northeast Missouri, and western Illinois, with the main threat window running from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m.
While not all areas will see severe conditions, some storms could produce damaging wind gusts strong enough to bring down branches and localized flooding on roads, especially where heavier rainfall falls in a short period. The risk for rapid rises on creeks and streams is also possible. Cities including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Burlington should be alert overnight, as strong storms may move through while many are asleep.
