Spirit AeroSystems workers in Wichita monitor Boeing strike, stay unconcerned for now

Boeing is facing its second strike in less than a year, this time at three defense plants in Missouri and Illinois. The question now becomes how will this affect workers at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita?

Employees say they’re watching what’s happening closely, but that they’re not too worried. This comes after 3200 Boeing defense workers in the St. Louis area walked out just after midnight after contract talks broke down. The strike targets plants that build fighter jets. Boeing says it has a contingency plan to keep production running.

But here in Wichita, where Boeing is set to acquire Spirit AeroSystems later this year, some Spirit employees say they’re not worried. They say while that strike centers on military aircraft production, their situation here is a little bit different, at least for now…
