Animal control now determining risk classification of dog that mauled Wasilla boy

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The dog suspected of mauling seven-year-old Julien Houk on a Mat-Su playground is now in custody of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley Borough Animal Shelter.

The dog’s owner fled the scene of the attack with the dog, leaving the injured boy behind. Officials say they have not yet spoken with the owner seen fleeing in the video taken by the boy’s father.

In an update on Tuesday, Houk’s father said the dog had been classified level 5 risk, but Chief Animal Care & Regulation Officer Matthew Hardwig said the investigation is still ongoing and that no classification decision has been made…
