GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is among a number of organizations around the state receiving grant dollars meant to give more people access to locally-grown food.
In a statement to News 8, the YMCA said the $44,000 it is getting will allow it to buy from more local growers and send one of its mobile farmers market Veggie Vans to more sites. It will also expand walk-in cooler space and improve the garden and greenhouse at the Mary Free Bed YMCA, “increasing our inventory and community access to affordable, healthy foods.”

The YMCA is among seven organizations statewide receiving a share of $340,000 from the latest round of Michigan Department of Agriculture Food Hub and Farm Stops grants.
