GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A judge will consider whether to destroy the arrest records of a former Grand Rapids police officer who was charged with murder after he shot and killed a man in 2022.
A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 22 to discuss a motion to destroy Christopher Schurr’s arrest records, fingerprints and biometric data, court records show. The motion cites a state law that says that such records and data should be “expunged or destroyed, or both, as appropriate,” if a defendant’s charges “are dismissed before trial.”

Schurr, then a police officer, shot and killed Patrick Lyoya after pulling him over in April 2022. That June, Schurr was charged with second-degree murder, with the prosecutor arguing his use of deadly force was not justified.
