Mother of woman who died in Linn County Jail custody wants changes to inmate screenings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The death of a woman in Linn County jail custody was preventable, according to experts who submitted their professional opinions as part of a lawsuit against the county.

Now the county is paying her family $850,000 to settle that wrongful death lawsuit.

Malorie Hults’ mother, Cristy Caldwell, said she wants the sheriff to change how inmates are screened to prevent what happened to her 31 year old daughter from happening to anyone else…
