Aug. 18 marks 20th anniversary of Stoughton tornado

Do you remember where you were on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005?

If you were living around Stoughton, chances are you won’t soon forget. That summer day, an unusual confluence of meteorological events caused a record outbreak of 27 tornadoes across the state.

By far, the largest was an EF-3 that tore a swath of destruction and death between Lake Kegonsa and the City of Stoughton. According to the National Weather Service, an EF3 (on a scale of 0-5) means winds ranging from 136-165 miles an hour…
