‘I’m gonna blast it at you’: Lubbock tax fund dispute turns violent

LUBBOCK, Texas — ALubbock man, Jamareun Hooper, 20, was arrested and accused on Tuesday of beating up a man and stealing his phone when the victim attempted to call 911.

According to court documents, the victim and a person he was in a relationship with got into an argument over tax refund money. After the victim refused to give the money back, the partner left and came back later with Hooper when the victim was at the store to “come at him,” the documents said.

The victim said that the store owner did get them to leave, and the victim called a ride but was later attacked by Hooper when he got into a car in the 1300 block of 65th Street.

At one point, the records show that Hooper pulled out a gun and told the victim, “I’m gonna blast it at you” before repetitively hitting the victim resulting in the victim busting his upper lip on the gun.

Records said that the victim then called 911 before Hooper took the victim’s phone and left with the victim’s partner, leaving the victim behind.
