City of Charleston to upgrade several playgrounds

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Charleston officials announced that four city playgrounds are set for major upgrades to provide safe, modern spaces for local families.

Three of the playgrounds, Mary Utsey Park, Stephen Washington Park and Brittlebank Park, are currently in the design phase with work scheduled to replace equipment that was originally installed in the 1990s.

With the Playground Replacement Program launching in 2012, the city has replaced 29 ‘aging’ playground systems in 23 parks and added 18 brand new playgrounds through the development of 13 new parks, according to city of Charleston spokesperson Bay Sheehan…
