44 immigrants arrested in Hamilton County in July: Majority were traffic violations

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — 44 immigrants with an ‘undocumented or unknown’ citizenship status were arrested in Hamilton County in July, according to a new report from the sheriff’s office.

A majority of those arrests (37) were for traffic violations, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

“At the time of booking, these individuals did not meet one or more of the 10 statutory qualifiers used to verify citizenship status under state law,” HCSO says.

Their report also lists the following reasons for arrest:

  • License/Registration (31)
  • DUI (27)
  • Substance-related (15)
  • Open Container Law (8)
  • Obstruction (6)
  • Domestic Assault (5)
  • Child Neglect (5)
  • Reckless Conduct (4)
  • Property Crime (3)
  • US Marshall Hold (2)
  • Robbery (1)
  • Conspiracy to Transport (1)
