Bus driver charged with OWI in March crash on I-96

IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan woman was charged this week for a crash earlier this year that injured four high school students who were on their way to a college visit.

Angela Lynne Fitzgerald, 45, was arraigned Wednesday on eight counts, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury.

4 students hurt in small bus crash in Portland Township

Fitzgerald was the driver of a small bus that was carrying 11 Grand Rapids Civic Theatre high school students and four adults on the morning of March 29. According to police, the bus veered off I-96 near Portland and hit a guardrail.

One of the injured students suffered a traumatic brain injury and another suffered serious injuries to her foot and leg.
