LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Council Appropriations Committee allocated $36,000 for improvements to sidewalks and curbs around the area of a closed Kroger store, hoping to bring in a new tenant to the now-vacant building.
The Kroger store at South 3rd Street and West Fairmont Avenue near Churchill Downs officially closed last month, one of 60 across the country. While another Kroger is located less than 1 mile away, some nearby residents said the walk — which includes crossing a large parking lot and navigating busy streets — is too dangerous, especially for those with children or limited mobility.
Metro Councilwoman Betsy Ruhe is partnering with South Louisville Community Ministries and Kroger to offer help.
