ALEA Mourns the Loss of Retired K-9 Pici, Celebrates Legacy of Service

Montgomery, AL — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has announced the passing of retired K-9 Pici, a valued member of the agency’s Highway Patrol Division, who served alongside Senior Trooper Brent Pickle. Pici passed away on Saturday, August 2, following a nearly 10-month battle with bone cancer.

K-9 Pici, born on October 4, 2018, began her service with ALEA in June 2020. Working in partnership with Sr. Trooper Pickle, Pici played a significant role in law enforcement operations across the state, particularly in the Birmingham area. Her work in narcotics and firearms detection contributed to numerous arrests and public safety efforts.

Described as a focused and skilled working dog, Pici assisted not only ALEA but also local agencies, becoming a familiar and respected presence in the region. Due to medical complications, she retired from duty earlier than expected and transitioned to life as a companion animal…
