Students learning without AC as they await ESPLOST V funds

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Fans and portable air conditioning systems fill the hallways of the Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) as their HVAC system has been down since last year.

The school has placed over 20 portable systems throughout the three-story school to help relieve the heat. Chief Executive Officer of SCA Barry Lollis said the HVAC problems aren’t new to the school, and they have been having issues since instillation.

“At the time of installation, it was new, but it was a dated system,” Lollis said. “So, we had been working on it over the last few years, trying to keep it operational in the last couple of years, it’s been really difficult to keep it due to the age of the system. It’s been down for the most part since November of last year and we’ve had vendors come in from three different states trying to get it operational and they have been unsuccessful. “…
