Alamo Colleges to limit protests: Masks and tents are out, free speech ‘zones’ are in

Political protests at Alamo Colleges District campuses soon will be limited to designated free expression zones, and only enrolled students and employees will enjoy free speech privileges.

The new policy is in line with a new state law that puts limits on political expression at Texas’ public colleges and universities. The restrictions are a reaction to protests that swept campuses across the country after Hamas invaded Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, triggering a war in which more than 60,000 Gaza residents and nearly 2,000 Israelis have died.
