Homeless living along Lehigh Valley creek must leave this month, city orders

Citing flooding concerns, Allentown officials this week announced unhoused residents living along Jordan Creek must leave this month.

The officials said staff would begin posting formal notices Thursday, ordering those living by Jordan Creek in the area of Jordan Meadows Park along American Parkway to leave by Aug. 25.

“The City recently assessed its flood plain maps and the area along Jordan Creek is in an active flood zone, posing a significant danger to those living there,” Mayor Matt Tuerk’s office said in a statement. “In light of recent deadly flooding events across the country, the City is taking proactive steps to protect the health and safety of individuals in these high-risk areas.”
