Autopsy confirms Cohoes suspect took his own life

Cohoes, NY (WRGB) — On August 7, 2025, Dr. Bernard Ng conducted an autopsy on Eli Cid Jr. at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. The preliminary results indicated that the cause of death was “severe head trauma due to a self-inflicted gunshot to the head,” and the manner of death was ruled a suicide. The autopsy confirmed that Cid had no additional wounds, verifying that he was not struck during the exchange of gunfire with State Police.

A tense standoff in Cohoes ended with the death of Cid Jr., the suspect after an exchange of gunfire with police. The incident began on Tuesday when Cohoes Police officers responded to a report of a physical altercation involving three individuals. During the altercation, a firearm was reportedly displayed and discharged.
