Clayton County Police Receive Over $1 Million in Federal Funding to Combat Gang Violence

The Clayton County Police Department has been granted federal funding exceeding $1 million, aimed at combating the surge in gang-related violence in the area, a significant move endorsed by Georgia Representative David Scott. Thanks to the funds, which were secured through the FY26 Community Project Funding Grant in tandem with the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program, the department is poised to bolster its fleet with 15 new police vehicles. Local authorities have articulated that these resources will be deployed to reinforce the newly-minted Precinct Anti-Crime Taskforce, aligning with the department’s ongoing initiative to tackle gang violence head-on.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports that the task force will collaborate closely with the department’s CAGE Unit (Criminal Apprehension and Gang Enforcement), and this synergy is essential for the task force’s mission to disrupt patterns of gang-related crimes that have rooted themselves in communities, the department is ready to launch an offensive that is strategic, data-driven, and reflective of the challenges faced on the ground.

Major Gazzara Hill keenly noted the department’s reliance on data to inform their strategy, “We’re pretty much a data driven police department and so when we see trends and patterns of certain types of criminal activity then we dispatch cars in that area,” he told Atlanta News First.
