Gary Gemme, who spent thirty-three years in the Worcester Police Department including twelve as Chief, has passed away.

The Worcester Police Department announced on Thursday that former Chief Gary Gemme has passed away. Chief Paul Saucier said Gemme was “A dedicated public servant who committed his life to the City of Worcester and its citizens.” Gemme was a United States Navy veteran and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Gemme spent thirty-three years with the Worcester Police Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1990, Lieutenant in 1993, Captain in 1995, Deputy Chief in 2000 and was named Chief in 2004.

In a statement Worcester Mayor Joe Petty said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Police Chief Gary Gemme. I had the privilege of working with Gary both as a City Councilor and as Mayor, and I witnessed firsthand his dedication to the people of Worcester and his unwavering commitment to public safety. His leadership and service left a lasting impact on our city. Chief Gemme enhanced the Community Impact Division, initiated the Summer Impact Program, and made great strides in modernizing the department. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who served alongside him during this difficult time.”…
