Napa Parents Arrested in Connection with Fentanyl Death of 3-Year-Old Son

NAPA, CA — “Last Friday, August 1st, 2025, Napa County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Belen Shroyer-Stephenson and Timothy Schultz for the death of their 3-year old son, who died of Fentanyl poisoning last year. The mother of the child is charged with murder. The father of the toddler is charged with child endangerment resulting in death. Both parents are Napa residents.

The arrests are the culmination of a nearly year-long investigation that started on August 15th, 2024, when Napa County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1600 block of Mary C Drive. The medical emergency call for service involved an unresponsive 3-year-old child, Zayden Schultz. A Napa County Coroner’s forensic pathologist officially classified the cause of death for Zayden to be Acute Fentanyl Intoxication.

After the investigation, detectives presented their case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, which ultimately filed the following criminal charges:…
