Hi there – StormTeam 3 Meteorologist Alysa Carsley here – let’s have a fabulous Friday! Yesterday was a wonderfully dry and comfortable day! Our high temperature in Savannah only reached 82° – if it weren’t for the peeks of sunshine, we could have possibly tied the coolest high for that date, which was 80° set in 1883.
FRIDAY FORECAST
While the clouds stick around today with highs only in the mid 80s, soaking rain showers are back in the forecast. The amount of dry air across the area is less compared to yesterday, but it will be enough to limit the chance of rain compared to the weekend’s forecast. Scattered showers and storms are possible from late this morning into the evening. Heavy downpours are possible in slow-moving storms. Areas across I-95 and eastward has highlighted under a low risk for excessive rainfall. Most rainfall totals today will be around 0.5″.
WEEKEND WEATHER
The coastal low we’ve been tracking over the last few days will remain off the East Coast. There will be a trough that extends behind it and will slowly move north, following the low, with waves of heavy rain. Rain chances over the weekend are likely – just like earlier this week, the highest chance of rain will be in the afternoon and evening. Rain will be heavy in slow-moving storms. Flooding risk will extend through Sunday with rain totals around 2-3″ by the end of the weekend. Isolated pockets of 4″+ will be possible. High temperaures remain cooler than average in the mid 80s.
The unsettled weather pattern will back off early next week. Rain chances decrease as temperatures climb back into the lower 90s…
