A top civil rights leader is no longer employed by the city and was replaced amid an internal investigation into his actions. That investigation has concluded, but city officials aren’t commenting on its findings yet.
Byron Bishop, the Equal Opportunities Division manager in the city’s Department of Civil Rights, is “no longer on staff,” according to a Wednesday email sent to department employees by Deputy Mayor Linda Vakunta, which was shared with the Cap Times.
Vakunta was appointed interim manager of the Equal Opportunities Division last month due to an ongoing investigation of Bishop at the time. Bishop has led the division for nearly a decade.
