Plan to build steakhouse at old jail site is scrapped after controversy in Homewood

Plans to transform the former Homewood jail site into a restaurant in the popular downtown district are dead, following public outcry and a lawsuit.

The Homewood city council this spring approved the proposal from developer Mike Mouron to build a high-end steakhouse that would be surrounded by a public park.

But at a city meeting on Monday, Homewood Mayor Alex Wyatt said that Mouron decided to drop the plan. The city also posted the change in its Facebook page…
