Knoxville Man Convicted of Attempted Murder of Ex-Girlfriend, Faces Over 30 Years without Parole

A Knoxville man has been found guilty of attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend, District Attorney Charme Allen announced. The conviction was secured by the Major Crimes Unit against 28-year-old Jevess Deron Craigmire, who now faces a minimum of thirty-one years in prison without the possibility of parole after committing an especially aggravated robbery, carjacking, and additional gun-related offenses.

According to a press release from the District Attorney’s Office, the incident took place on April 20, 2024, when Craigmire, armed with a handgun, fired sixteen rounds at the victim and assaulted her as she tried to escape. Knoxville Police Department responded to the shooting on Dandridge Avenue, where Detective Zackery Herman later discovered that Craigmire had been lying in wait for the victim after recently moving out following their breakup. Post-assault, Craigmire then proceeded to steal the victim’s car.

During the two-day trial, Assistant District Attorneys Jeannine Guzolek and Sean Roberts presented the jury with the details of the brutal attack. “This Office will continue to aggressively prosecute gun crimes and hold violent offenders accountable,” DA Allen stated, signaling a firm stance on such acts of violence.
