PROVIDENCE – The U.S. Postal Service employees in Providence looked for colorful envelopes that they hoped contained cash, checks or gift cards, reaping more than $1 million in checks on just one of the days they ran the scheme, according to federal officials.
The seven employees would conceal the envelopes in backpacks, sneak them out of the U.S. Mail Processing and Distributing Center in Providence, meet at a previously designated location and pull out cash, gift cards and checks, Acting U.S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said.
