Sylvan Beach warns swimmers to stay out due to severe algal blooms

SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On a hot summer day, Sylvan Beach is typically packed with swimmers and boats. But Thursday afternoon was a much different scene.

“I was thinking like, did something happen? I looked over, no boats lined up, barely anybody there. I was like something must’ve happened,” said Lana Bell, a resident of Baldwinsville.

What’s going on is that serious algal blooms have taken over parts of the lake. The Village of Sylvan Beach posted a warning on Facebook, urging people to avoid swimming through Sunday, August 10…
