Texana Center lays off 134 employees due to funding shortage

WHARTON, Texas — Texana Center, a nonprofit that provides services for people with mental health conditions, autism and developmental disabilities, will lay off 134 employees as it ends two Medicaid Waiver Programs next year.

The organization’s senior leadership team and board of trustees voted to terminate participation in the Home and Community-Based Services and Texas Home Living programs, effective Sept. 19, 2025.
