DENVER (KDVR) — Weld County confirmed on Friday that a skunk has tested positive for rabies in the county, making it the first positive test in a skunk in the state since 2023.
In a press release, the county said that the skunk was found on Aug. 5 at a residential property east of Eaton.

The property owners were observing the skunk, which was close to livestock and ultimately decided to contact animal control and the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment after seeing that the animal was “displaying abnormal behavior,” said the county.
