Arrest records of Christopher Schurr to be destroyed following murder mistrial

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Becker has signed an order to destroy the arrest records and fingerprints of a former Grand Rapids police officer previously charged with murder.

An administrator with the county confirmed with News Channel 3 that Becker signed off on a motion to destroy the arrest records of Christopher Schurr, who was accused of violating the 4th Amendment rights of Patrick Lyoya after he allegedly used excessive force to shoot and kill him during a traffic stop in April of 2022.

“The prosecutor signed the stipulation since he had no basis on which to object under the law,” the assistant county administrator said.
