HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A small earthquake rumbled near Bucksport in Horry County on Saturday morning, though likely wasn’t felt due its size, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The magnitude 1.9 tremblor was recorded about six miles east of Bucksport and 12 miles east of Socastee around 12:30 a.m., officials said.
Earthquakes in the central and eastern U.S., although less frequent than in the western U.S., are typically felt over a much broader region. East of the Rockies, an earthquake can be felt over an area as much as ten times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the west coast,” the USGS said.
