A filling by Tulsa-based Alliance Resource Partners L.P. shows the coal company paid more than $51 million in the form of black lung excise taxes, reclamation fees, permitting fees and federal income taxes to the federal government last year.
The filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed the various payments totaled $51,439,820 in 2024. The largest portion was in the form of Federal black lung excise taxes and it totaled $30,539,242.
The company’s federal income taxes in 2024 were $17,500,000. Federal reclamation fees were $3,042,138 and permitting fees totaled $27,432. Alliance reported spending $277,008 on Black Lung benefits.
The filing also revealed Federal Black Lung excise taxes paid for mining operations in what is known as the Illinois Basin, comprised of coal mining in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, came to a total of $22,150,788…
