Man on trial for brutal stabbing in Point Defiance Park linked by DNA, video evidence

TACOMA, Wash. — Investigators say they linked Nicholas Matthew to a brutal stabbing in Point Defiance Park through DNA evidence, video footage, and witness accounts.

Matthew is on trial for the attempted murder of a woman he allegedly attacked randomly while she was walking on a trail in February 2024. The victim suffered over a dozen stab wounds to her head and body, with severe slashes to her face and ear.
