Ohio BCI Probes Hudson Police Officer-Involved Shooting of Hammer-Wielding Man on State Route 91

An investigation is underway by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation after a Hudson police officer shot a man who was reportedly wielding a hammer. The incident occurred early morning yesterday on State Route 91, near Stoney Hill Drive, when the officer encountered a barefoot man who was allegedly shouting at passing drivers, News 5 Cleveland reported.

The confrontation took place at approximately 4:11 a.m., shortly after the Hudson Police Department received a 911 call about an individual who appeared to confront motorists aggressively. “There was a guy walking down the street with a t-shirt and bare feet,” a 911 caller described, according to a WKYC report. “And he started yelling at me as I rounded the corner from Stoney Hill to Darrow,” the caller explained in a statement obtained by News 5 Cleveland.

Upon arrival, the officer found the suspect near the mentioned intersection, and according to Hudson Police, the man confronted the officer while holding a hammer. In response, the officer discharged their weapon, injuring the man, who was later taken to Summa Akron City Hospital.
