A New York snowbird has been sentenced in the wake of a drunk driving arrest in The Villages.
Christopher Dover, 63, who at the time of his arrest listed an address in the Village of Fenney, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
Dover was driving a gray Kia Sorento at 9:42 p.m. March 24 traveling south on U.S. 301 near Warm Springs Avenue when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed the vehicle, which had a Florida license plate, had no visible taillights.
During a traffic stop, a deputy approached Dover, who was “sluggish and slow to respond,” according to an arrest report. Dover was identified by his New York driver’s license. Dover’s speech was slurred. The deputy noticed three Corona beer caps in the center console of the vehicle…
