Police identify the residents who drowned in flash flood

Spring Hope police have identified the two residents who drowned Wednesday when a flash flood swept their van into a ravine that was filled with deep, fast-moving water.

Lottie Alston, 24, and Raymond Evans Jr., 55, were both from Louisburg and were traveling on N.C. 581 just south of Spring Hope during a deluge Wednesday afternoon that saw floodwaters quickly rise in the western part of Nash County.

At a press conference held Wednesday evening at the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in Nashville, Sheriff Keith Stone said the incident occurred in a low-lying area shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police officers who arrived on the scene spotted the two Louisburg residents on the roof of the van. The fast-moving water jostled the van, and the two fell into water and drowned…
